Isaiah 26: 1-6
Psalm 118
Matthew 7:21-27
Tough words to hear from Jesus in today’s gospel – tough and accurate. What we do with this life matters. It matters to God. It matters to others. It matters to ourselves. It matters for our eternity. When Jesus invites us into relationship, He is inviting us into more than making sure we go to Mass and take our kids to Family faith Formation and saying Rosaries.
Jesus is calling us into relationship. That relationship, when we make it our singular cornerstone on which we build our families, our community and especially ourselves then nothing that comes to us in this world will ever destroy us. Physical illness, mental illness, addictions, financial troubles, troubles with school studies…all of those challenges are manageable when we recognize God is our cornerstone.
Those words can be easy for me to read and write, they can be tougher to live. However, it certainly can be lived, which is why we need to have the Saints as our friends. We look to others and see the incredible things they did with their lives and we see what we can do too. There is no magic that any of those Saints had – they struggled with pride and health and finances, and yet they continued to move forward.
How? T-R-U-S-T.
As we move toward Christmas, be sure to give yourself a present by engaging in deeper prayer. Get to the Adoration Chapel – yes, you do to have time to go – and accept that Jesus is very much present in the Eucharist. Get to an extra Mass each week. Give of yourself when you are too tired to do it. All of that will help make your house built on solid rock.
It is a fantastic day! Smile at God today!
