Acts 5: 27-3
Psalm 34
John 3: 31-36
Accepting something as true that is not based on our own experience can be difficult. Have a friend who talked his younger brother into wetting his finger and sticking it into a light socket “Because sticking a wet finger into a light socket is fun!” Well, did not turn out to be too much fun for his little brother – who got a charge out of it but is still fine to this day.
Jesus tells us that He knows the Truth, not man’s truth but the Father’s Truth – the real Truth. Why? Because He has experienced it and we can trust in His words. There is that word again – trust – the engagement in relationship with our Lord that we recognized last Sunday on Divine Mercy Sunday and that we experience each day. The act of trusting Jesus is a day to day, moment to moment decision that morphs over time into a natural relationship, a way of life, who we are and not what we do.
Our gospel tells us that the Father is overflowing in His desire to share with us the Holy Spirit to guide us throughout our lives allowing us to better understand the Truth that Jesus teaches. Jesus is the true Son of God, we know that because of His words, His deeds, and by the experience of others who have come to know Him as well. All of that, though, requires trust.
St Ignatius taught that there is constant struggle in this world to understand what is God’s Truth and what is man’s truth. The gospel written by John reflects this constant struggle between good and evil, between truth and falsehoods. Making the clear decision to trust in Jesus leads us to sound decision making to discern the Truth.
So, what do you accept as true? Is it really God’s truth, or mankind’s perversion of the truth twisted to fit your own thoughts or comforts? Real Truth leads us to peace, peace brings joy, and joy brings happiness!
Go smile at God today!
